Apparatus: reformer

What you'll study

  1. 1. The Reformer: Machine, Springs and Safety

How the reformer works, what the springs actually do, and the safety habits that must be automatic before you teach anyone.

  2. 2. Anatomy for Apparatus Teaching

The anatomy that matters when a spring is pulling on a body: load, leverage, joint position and where the work should be felt.

  3. 3. Reformer Repertoire I: Footwork and Supine Series

The opening of the reformer order: footwork, running, feet in straps and the supine abdominal work.

  4. 4. Reformer Repertoire II: The Long Box and Abdominal Series

The long box series, stomach massage and the abdominal work that builds the middle of the class.

  5. 5. Reformer Repertoire III: Standing, Kneeling and Plank Work

Long Stretch, Down Stretch, Up Stretch, Elephant, knee stretches and the standing work.

  6. 6. Reformer Repertoire IV: Advanced Work and Transitions

The advanced repertoire and, just as importantly, how to move between exercises without losing the class.

  7. 7. Cueing and Correcting on the Apparatus

Teaching a machine changes how you cue: fewer words, better timing, and corrections that account for spring load.

  8. 8. Programming Reformer Sessions and Classes

How to build a private session and a group class on the reformer, including mixed-level groups.

  9. 9. Safety, Screening and Special Populations on the Reformer

Screening for apparatus work, staying inside scope, and adapting the reformer for common populations.

  10. 10. Professional Practice and Certification

Conduct, records, the business of teaching on apparatus, and exactly what you must complete to certify.
